MAGAZINE REVIEW

Magazine Review

Magazine review

Spend at least 20-25 minutes reading the magazine, really reading!!

On your blog - do a 3-4 paragraph review of the magazine you selected. What did you learn new? Would you subscribe or buy this magazine off the shelf? What sections are there in the magazine? What kind of information can expect to find in that magazine each issue? What was your favorite section? These are all things you could address in your review.

Then find your favorite photo in the magazine, do a google search of the photographer. On your blog post your favorite photo. Then do a biography of that photographer. What are they famous for? What kind of equipment do they use? What is their chosen genera? What attracted you to their work?

This magazine is called "Rangerfinder" this is the issue of march 2013, voulume. 62. the magazne is broken up into contents starts with the weeding issue, features, coulumns and departments. then in those sections its broken up into even more things.
In the wedding issue section there are photgrpahers who shoot weedings and there work. in the features section there are things like tips and the 100 photgrpaher you should know  and all the hot spots to shoot. then there are column where photgrphers right about there experience in this careeer area whether its on first exposure,DSLR, legal lense and light.  then in the last section there is departments there are phtogrpaher works with stories that go with there photos. all the photogrpaher in theis section talk about how they went razy with everything and changed things in there career and how it helped them be better than before.
Between the section there is also ADs that promote other peoples photography or stores that have to do with taking pictures. then in the end there is a small catalog splitting it by Canon and Nikon. the catalog shows the top hit's in the new world on camera's and bodies and even equipment that hot and new.  there is a section devoted for lenses, tripods and different bodies. then underneath each piece of equipment there are review by customers who had bought the product and it states there opinion on the product and then rates the product from 1-5 stars.

PRINTING WHAT PAPER IS THE BEST

WHAT THE BEST PRINTING  PAPER TO USE FOR YOU?

  THERE are 4 major characteristics of paper and they are;
  1. paper opacity
  2. paper finish
  3. color brilliance
  4.  paper thickness
ISO brightness is the standard that quantifies the brightness of paper as it would be perceived in a setting that is illuminated with a mixture of cool-white and unfiltered daylight. ISO Brightness can be exceeded 100% by a smaller number. ISO standard will always be brighter than TAPPI for the same paper.
TAPPI brightness is the brightness of paper as it would be perceived in a setting that is illuminated in some cool-white fluorescence and some filtered daylight.  TAPPI brightness provides the lowest number of any of the three scales and rarely exceed 100%. the UC component of TAPPI brightness is the lowest of any standard at the time.

WARM-UP DELICIOUS

Warm-up - delicious

Go to my delicious account:

Find a website that looks interesting to you. Read, explore, check it out.

On your blog

1.     Link the website you visited and make sure your blog is titled the same as the links above..
http://magazine.good.is/articles/human-skin-tones-photography
2.     Briefly describe what you looked at on the website (2-3 sentences, make sure you write enough to really make it clear that you spent time looking at the website).
this is a very unique project that this photographer is doing. she looks at things in a different way. she thought by finding different people with different skin tones, she could show  " how the gradient of humans skin tones connects us all, rather than divides.
3.     What did you learn new?
i think i learned a new way to look at things. for instance she looks at our different skin tones as a way to connect ourselves to one-another.

9.     If you were directed to a site that you cannot answer any of the questions above, please do the following:
a.     What did you see on the website, describe it in 2-3 sentences?
there was a grid that consisted of 6 photos. all were different and similar in some ways, the background was a certain color and then the subject being the person was the same color and almost blended in. the color ranged to light skin tones to very dark skin tones.b.     What did you learn?
again its a perspective thing she taught me, she taught me to look at things differently and in a positive way rather than negativeness,.c.     How did the site relate to photography?
she used the different skin tones in the photos bring up this concept that all the different skin tones connect us all in some way rather than dividing us.

While performing, the two girls use eachother to  do amazing tricks like shown above. The 2 were seen practicing  this miniver minutes before the performance.
In the final pose, the girls use there faces to perform to the audience one last time. The end of the show always is known to have the most energy.

POCKET PORTFOLIO

pocket portfolios

1. Do you think these pocket portfolios are a good way to market your photography business?
I think these pocket portfolios are a wonderful way to market your business. You get to share some of your work all packed into a convenient, unique, creative pocket sized book  this is also useful because you can bring it wherever you may go at that moment.

2. What are some advantages to using this style in your opinion?
On regular business cards you don't have enough space to really show off what you can do. all you can put is contact info and hope your clients get interested enough to come back. With the pocket portfolios you can show off some of your work and put contact info, so you have much more of a chance to hook the client and get them to come back. then they really know hoe you are buy using those photos to show your talents.

3. In your opinion, what are the disadvantages to using these little books?

well of course its called a pocket portfolio so its a small size. sometime you cant really get the ideal or right quality of picture when its pocket sized.  another disadvantage would have to be that you cant really show ALL the photos you really want to.

4. Do you think Matthew Jones was justified in his defense of not sharing his publisher?

In his defense I think it was wise not to share his publisher. I mean  he probably angered a few people off by not sharing, but in the end it was a wise decision in my opinion. If he shared his publisher then Mr. Jones could start to have competition, and the article is not a "how to" it's meant to inspire you to do something on your own. Not to do an exact replica of what he's already produced

5. Where do you place the blame for the misleading headline, on the writer, or the website publisher?

I would place the blame on the website publisher for not correctly titling the article. Jones didn't have a choice on what the title would be once he sent it in.

6. In this age of "trolling" did you think the series of comments were appropriate?

I suppose it was slightly appropriate due to the misleading headline; however people also need to realize it's meant to be an inspiring article not a how to reproduce this exact idea. Yes it's not his idea and it would've been nice of him to give a little bit of help to the people, but with just a quick search on google people could have easily found out many sources where to print such a book.

PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS

  • Every flash photograph is two exposures in one
  • Fill flash can be used when subject is backlit or side lit to eliminate silhouettes or shadows
  • Flash exposure is not affected by shutter speed
  • Flash illumination is dramatically affected by distance
  • Your camera measures ambient light and flash illumination separately
  • with automatic flash metering, the flash illumination is measured after the shutter button is pressed, and the flash output is adjusted accordingly
  • Every SLR camera with a mechanical shutter box has a maximum flash sync shutter speed
  • Harsh lighting, washed out subjects and red eye can be eliminated by using diffusers and light bouncing
  • It is possible to change the order of when the flash fires using "Rear Curtain Sync"
  • Removing the flash from the top of the camera helps eliminate red eye and unflattering shadows

INDOOR FLASH PRACTICE

SLOW SYNC FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY

Slow Sync Flash Photography

Since you have a formal assignment involving flash photography - I wanted to show you a little bit about why I think flash photography is so great.

Check out this tutorial:

http://digital-photography-school.com/slow-sync-flash/

Make a new blog and answer the following questions:

1. What are two ways to get an image in low light?
There are 2 ways to get an image in low light. use flash or using slow shutter speed.
2. What is one disadvantage to using both of those ways?
some advatages is is that if you use the flash on your camera, the subject can be too bright or the background can be to dark.
3. What is a solution to the problem?
a solution to this problem is that you can use slow sync flash.
4. Explain front and rear curtain sync?
front curtain sync - tells your camera to first the flash at the end of the exposure (flash will fire right before shutter closes)
rear curtain sync - tells your camera to fire the flash immediately when shutter opens
Here is another tutorial if you need more info:

PEER REVIEW- 6 STATTION EVENT SHOOT

Peer Review - 6 Station, Painting Reproduction (FS), and 1st Event Shoot/// my partner: Tori stephenson

Step 1: Go to bowiecommercialphoto.blogspot.com and find My Blog List. Pick someones blog and click on it. Go find their blog called "6 Stations" and look at their images. When you are being critical of their images, remember to be constructive, typing "this image sucks" doesn't help anyone improve their skills. Talk about things like lighting, perspective, the "rules" you see evident. Remember that someone could be doing this same thing with your images. These will NOT BE ANONYMOUS so be polite and constructive with your efforts.
Step 2: On your blog copy and paste the link for the student's blog.
http://toriscommercialphotoblog.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2015-02-23T12:50:00-08:00&max-results=7

Step 3: Which photo do you like best? Why?
i really like the one with the lights. i can see that she really took into perpesctive that there would be a long exposure so she got creative and used the lights to her advantage and overall made a really cool effct.

Step 4: Which is your least favorite image? Why?
My least favorite photo that tori took would have to be the miniature one the yellow picture. i don't really know why i don't like this but its not interesting to me maybe she could position the little people into something that would catch me eye and make me interested in the photo.

Step 5: Overall, make two positive statements about their pictures.
she has a good perspective on the ideas of each event.
she also made for the most part every photo interesting.
Step 6: Overall, what is one area that this person could improve upon in your opinion.
i think she could play around with something out of box her pictures are already interesting but she could do one simple little change to a picture andit culd change the whole entire thing.
she could also play with color i the future maybe make something black and white or use cool lens to add some flavor to the picture.

Step 7: Once you have completed these steps, leave a comment on their blog, with a link to your peer review, so they can go look at it next class. You may have to be logged into you blog to leave a comment. Please title this blog: 6 Station Peer Review
